CHAIRMAN'S NEWS
I am writing this whilst we are away on holiday in the Yorkshire Dales on a wet
day.
It is disappointing to see so few members out at the meets recently but
understandably the economic climate has hit many caravanners and campers plus
the summer weather has not been at its best.
I hope that myself and the committee will see many of you at our FOL at Stonham
Barns, as we have put together a varied programme
which you can read on the Website.
As many of you will have seen in Cornstalk and on the Website the costings for
Southwold Meet have increased this year beyond the control of our D.A.
The Christmas Party and New Year booking forms are now available from Ian
Roberts, myself or download from our Website under
Latest News.
Best wishes Bill
Rose
Meadow, Shotley - 4th to 6th July
Hi Campers,
What a lovely site
the Shotley Rose Inn was, with the pub, a shop for papers etc. and a Fish & Chip
shop within yards of the site. There are also lots of walks and enough room for
50 units or more, a very flat field with the grass cut like a lawn.
We were very
pleased to win the pitch prize at the meet.
In case some of you
don't know who we are - we only joined the DA some 12 months ago after being
with the motorhome section for the past 12 years - ours is the motorhome which
has a Doberman on the bonnet and the rear.
We have found the
DA very friendly but not overpowering.
Many thanks to the
stewards, Andrew and Catherine
Best wishes

Bob’s Meadow – 20th
to 22nd June
As winner of the ‘Bake a cake on the BBQ’ I find myself doing a write up for
Cornstalk.
Whilst only 5 minutes away from my home, Bob’s Meadow could be in the middle of
the countryside. Situated next to woods and with a huge field it is ideal for
dog walkers and ball games with the children.
Whilst the weather wasn’t glorious on Saturday, the rain did clear to allow us
chance to try our culinary skills in the afternoon. The challenge was to bake a
cake on the BBQ. Notoriously difficult given the extreme temperature immediately
beneath the cake tin! There were 4 entries with varying degrees of success – no
names but Betty Crocker certainly wouldn’t want her name put against that
particular marble cake! Saturday evening Donna had done a quiz for us all to get
our grey matter working – we were pipped at the post by The Dances – well done,
we’re not bitter!
Sunday morning at coffee the independent Judge’s decision was awaited for the
‘Bake-off’ decision. Unfortunately the marble cake was on a back foot with just
the sniff test and nearly made our poor judge retch with the taste of just a
crumb – never mind, better luck next time Paul - oops, forgot no mention of
names! Not sure how, but my lemon sponge made it through the winning post and
won me my favourite liquorice allsorts. The cakes, with one exception, were
devoured by all and to work off those extra calories the men and children
enjoyed a game of rounders in the sunshine. A good end to a lovely weekend
Thanks to Paul, Donna, Holly and Josh for stewarding

THORPENESS
HOLIDAY SITE 25TH-27TH JULY 2008
SSDA is listed in the Sites Book as having a joint meet with ECS this
weekend, however this is not the case! Although all members are welcome to
Thorpeness, this is, in fact, a 2-week THS being run by ECS and as such places
could well be limited.
If you intend going to this meet you MUST telephone either Carole on 0777 301
9602 or the club on 0772 400 1000 to check for availability of pitches as this
is a popular THS.
Any questions, please feel free to contact me.

OAKVIEW
NURSERIES - ARDLEIGH
We arrived at the Meet on Friday in the rain and were warmly greeted by the
stewards Vic and Doreen who told us we were 15 minutes late as they opened at
noon. I think they were feeling deserted and feed up
with the rain all week.
We were soon joined by 3 other units
and by teatime there were 7 units in total. The rain
continued on until late Saturday afternoon though it did not deter some
from
venturing into Colchester or around the lovely garden centre on site.
Sunday morning we awoke to a dry sunny
morning and no longer a soggy field much to the relieve of us and Mick and
Barbara as we were both towed off from different sites the weekend previous.
Coffee morning was enjoyed by us all sitting enjoying the hot sun and
chating. I even managed a walk down the site to look
at the reservoir and listen to the bird song.
This was our first visit to the site
and we were impressed by the number of electric points and information hut,
also it close to Dedham, Mistley and
Colchester.
Thank you once again Vic and Doreen plus Cleo for stewarding the meet.

SOUTHWOLD CAMPSITE
OCTOBER 2008
Dear
Members
You may
have heard that Southwold Campsite have put their fees up considerably for this
year.
I feel that
we still need to go ahead with our booking as it is such a popular site, but we
need to inform as many members as possible about the huge hike in site fees
beforehand.
If you, the
members are aware of the costs it will then be up to you whether you still want
to camp, or not!
The fees
that we will need to charge are as below:
Unfortunately Waveney Council are now charging us per unit and per person per
night and we have to show them how many units were out and the age bracket of
each person within each unit. I have tried to negotiate the prices with them but
apart from making no charge for an awning or dogs, this is the best that I could
do!
It is now
up to you, our members to decide whether you are prepared to pay these prices
for a weekend in Southwold.
If you have
any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on 01473 611430 or via
e-mail at
catherinedance@btinternet.com

A Message from the Editor
Please can I have all write ups
etc. as soon as possible and unless by special arrangement, always before the
20th of the month preceding publication. Write ups after that time will
unfortunately have to be held over until the next publication. They will
of course still be put on the web site as soon as they are received.
As those of you who use email
know we all get lots of ‘spam’ mail and lots of us use a filtering device to
block some of it out. It is sometimes possible using these filters that
mail can be accidentally deleted or unread.
I now send an acknowledgement for
all articles received by email. If you send an article and an
acknowledgement hasn't been received within 24hrs then please contact me by
phone and we can then sort it out.
Many thanks
